Acid and Fertiliser Dosing Rig

Acid and Fertiliser Dosing Rig

The use of acid dosing to correct the PH level of irrigation water is a well proven technology. Water at the correct PH level allows the plants to take up the trace elements vital to their growth and avoids lock-up of nutrients in the soil.

By using nitric acid as the correcting agent, this will also give the plants a nitrogen feed. A by product of this process, and in many ways vital to the garden centre trade, is the absence of white residue (calcium) deposits on the leaves of the plants, which is extremely noticeable in the more succulent type plants. Hence, at the point of sale, the plants will have a healthy appearance, lasting throughout the season and in most cases potting on is not required.

There are many types of dosing system available, but in the main our company prefer to use the HERON system. HERON is an English company who design, make and assemble all of their products in the UK. They offer very competitively priced products, an impressive after sales service and technical help is at the end of the phone. Their Rigs have no moving parts, require minimum human contact with neat acid, are simple to use, and very reliable. When used alongside Heron irrigation controllers, a very reliable automatic concept can be achieved, with up to 16 different fertiliser programs. PH correction can be achieved up to 45 cubic metres per hour, and with multiple fertiliser dosing take-ups. Rigs can be supplied as acid or fertiliser, or both options in one rig. Acid Rigs are an almost essential tool to the discerning grower and plants sales outlets.

Inline Fertiliser Dosing

This system is normally installed on the suction side of the irrigation pump and up to 7 stop tanks can be used. It can be operated as a stand alone system, or connected to an irrigation controller with up to 15 recipes available for each program. Venturis are used with flow rates of up to 3 litres per minute, giving a reliable and rugged design. The high and low flow rates can be supported and EC can be accurately controlled from 0.2 to 5.0 mS. A small pump is used to drive the venture system and a flow meter (optional) for a very accurate control of the EC level/flow. Multiple alarms are incorporated into the programs, and therefore safety is guaranteed. There are several variations of this rig available, even an acid dosing system.

The Mix Tank System

The Mix Tank System

The Mix tank system is installed on the delivery side of the irrigation pump, and requires a fill pump to pump water through the rig, as shown. This system can be used for acid only, or acid & fertiliser dosing. Venturis are used for fertiliser dosing, which inject rates of up to 3 ltrs per minute i.e. minimum of moving parts providing a very reliable and rugged design. PH correction can be accurately controlled down to 5.6, no seals or moving parts are used in contact with the concentrated acid and human involvement is minimal. Acid is always contained safely in the Acid Storage Barrel. The standard rig comes complete with 2 fertiliser intakes that can be increased to 4. This rig supports flow rates of up to 24cu.mtr per hour, allowing accurate control over wide range of flow rates. Multiple alarm conditions are built in to each system so your plants are safe. If connected to an irrigation controller, 16 different fertiliser recipes can be assigned to different irrigation programs. The mix tank system can also be used to dose your water storage tank.
